Balenciaga's architect of triumphant ressurection, Nicolas Ghesquière, has been bestowed with the honour of apparently being The Fashion Group International's latest 'Superstar'.
The FGI (kinda like the US BFC) will present his award at their 'Night Of The Stars' ceremony in October.
"Nicolas Ghesquière defines the word 'superstar,'" gushed FGI president Margaret Hayes. "Said to be one of the most intriguing and original designers of his generation, he has reinvented the House of Balenciaga and endowed its legacy with a cool, modern edge."
Now while there's no denying her sentiments there, I'm loathe to the term 'superstar' defining Ghesquière, or even any other limelight shunning designer - it's a fundamental insult to his creative ingenuity, furthermore his admirable discretion and wholly respectable avoidance of courting the designer-as-celebrity schtick: thus rendering any 'superstar' connotations obsolete.
Perhaps more alarming however, is the apparent theme of the Night Of The Stars ceremony - 'The Globalists'...
