Firstly, no one is suggesting essential accompanying items are a crook and flock. The mood is romantic, a little bit pastoral, homespun with a smidgen of Edwardiana thrown in for measure. Frills, gently puffed sleeves and full, full skirts anchor the look as do rounded necklines and dainty florals as seen at Ralph Lauren and Roberto Cavalli. Chanel went nuts for the concept and transformed the Grand Palais into a full-on haybarn for the show.

Prim but not dowdy, quaint but not twee, summer is going to be a time to get unashamedly girly. Knock yourself out with an oversized straw sunhat or bonnet if you totally want to nail that Bo Peep vibe.
